More to the market

Businesses today face an ever evolving market, which means they need to be prepared for future challenges. By communicating with customers, new market opportunities can be discovered which help maintain relevance in the industry.

The aim with this brief was to develop a service design proposal for Messina Gelato that enhances engagement through a user-centred business solution based on market research.

INSIGHT
Through market research targeted at people aged 20-35 living in Sydney, a variety of market opportunities were established. From these opportunities four in particular stood out.
Desire for dietary alternatives
Growing plant based market
Desire for prolonged social experience
Desire for higher level of community engagement

IDEA
What if you brought these opportunities together by creating dedicated sub-brands designed specifically to meet the unique needs of this emerging audience?
EXECUTION
Messina More and Messina Drinks are two distinct sub-brands brought together in a new flagship venue. On the ground floor, Messina More offers a curated selection of gelato flavours, balancing classic favourites with an equal amount of dietary alternatives. While placing a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental impact.

Upstairs, the experience shifts to Messina Drinks, a gelato-infused cocktail bar designed for those seeking a more social, longer lasting experience.

To foster a stronger sense of community, the venue introduces The Monthly Scoop, a creative, crowd-sourced competition where customers submit gelato flavour ideas inspired by a monthly theme. The winning creation is brought to life and featured in-store the following month.

MESSINA DRINKS
The sub-brand was created together with Ida Melltorn. We created the service design proposal together from concept to finish, including the logotypes of both brands. Further visual development was split between us, where Ida Melltorn expanded on Messina Drinks.
